Applications

Multi-substrate flexo press — one line for labels, film & packaging.

Diversifying beyond labels shouldn't mean buying a machine for every material. A true multi-substrate press runs self-adhesive labels, shrink sleeve, film and flexible packaging on one platform — here's what that takes, and the press built for it.

The idea

What "multi-substrate" really means

Paper labels and heat-sensitive films behave completely differently on press. A multi-substrate flexo press is engineered to switch between them without compromise — so a converter can win label work, shrink-sleeve work and short-run flexible packaging on the same machine, and add new materials as the business grows. That versatility is what protects your investment as your job mix changes.

What to look for

Wide substrate range

From thin unsupported films to thick laminates — the Nova A8 handles 8–450 µ.

Servo web-tension control

Delicate films need stable, precise tension; dual-servo drives keep register tight across materials.

Combination drying

UV, LED, IR, hot air and chill roll in one line, so heat-sensitive films and paper both run clean.

Inline finishing

Lamination, cold foil, DeLam-ReLam, multi-layer and die-cutting to finish different products in one pass.

The right web width

Mid-web (up to 670 mm) to fit film and pouch layouts as well as labels.

The press built for it

Nova A8 — the multi-substrate flagship

The Nova A8 is Alliance's answer to multi-substrate printing: an 8–450 µ substrate range across 370–670 mm working widths, dual-servo web control, combination drying and full inline finishing — labels, shrink sleeve, lamitube, IML, wrap-around labels, monocartons and flexible packaging, all on one machine.

  • Working width: 370 / 450 / 550 / 670 mm (14.5″–26.3″)
  • Mechanical speed: 200 m/min
  • Substrate range: 8 µ – 450 µ
  • Repeat range: 8″ – 36″

FAQ

Multi-substrate flexo — common questions

What is a multi-substrate flexo press?

A multi-substrate flexo press is a single machine engineered to print across very different materials — self-adhesive labels, unsupported films, shrink sleeve and flexible packaging — by combining wide substrate handling, precise web-tension control and multiple drying technologies on one line.

Can one flexo press really print labels, shrink sleeves and pouches?

Yes — a true multi-substrate press does exactly this. It needs the right web width, tension control for thin films, and combination drying (UV, LED, hot air and chill) so it can switch between paper labels and heat-sensitive films without a second machine. The Alliance Nova A8 is built for this range.

What does a press need to handle multiple substrates?

Four things: a wide substrate thickness range (thin films to thick laminates), stable web-tension and servo web control, combination drying (UV/LED/IR/hot air/chill roll), and inline finishing options such as lamination, cold foil and die-cutting so different products can be produced end to end.

Which Alliance press is multi-substrate?

The flagship Nova A8. It runs an 8–450 micron substrate range in working widths of 370–670 mm at up to 200 m/min, with dual-servo web control and combination drying — printing labels, shrink sleeve, lamitube, IML, wrap-around labels, monocartons and flexible packaging on one platform.
