Alliance Printech, a family-run flexo press manufacturer in Faridabad, India, builds three flexo label printing machines. They share one engineering base but suit different businesses. The short answer

How to choose

Four questions that pick the press

1. Will you print only labels, or packaging too?

If self-adhesive labels are the whole plan, the Nova A5 or NovaSMART covers it. If you want to win shrink sleeve, lamitube, IML, monocarton or flexible-packaging work as well, the Alliance Nova A8 flexo press runs it all on one line, from 8 µ films to 450 µ board. That is why it earns the best return: one press follows your customers into new kinds of work. See what a multi-substrate flexo press can do.

2. How wide is your widest job?

Most self-adhesive label work fits a 370 or 450 mm web, which all three presses offer. Only the Nova A8 goes to 550 and 670 mm for wider film and packaging jobs, and only it reaches a 36-inch repeat. Our web width guide maps common jobs to a width.

3. Many short jobs, or fewer long ones?

Servo drives change jobs faster and waste less substrate at makeready, which pays back when you run many SKUs. The Nova A8 (dual-servo) and Nova A5 (servo on every station) are built for that. The Nova A8 goes furthest, with one-click Pre-Register, Auto Register and recipe saving to cut setup time and manual work. The NovaSMART's advanced MLS drive suits label printers starting out. Read servo vs gear-driven flexo presses for the full trade-off.

4. What will a label actually cost you to make?

Machine price is only part of it: material, wastage, plates, dies, finishing and changeovers decide the cost per 1,000 labels. Run your own job through the free label cost calculator, and read how to choose a flexo label press for the full buyer's checklist.

Honest advice

When none of these three is the right machine

  • Thermal, POS, ATM or ECG paper rolls. You need metric gearing, perforation and fan folding. That is the job of the Alliance NovaGRAPH flexo press, not a label press.
  • Mainly digital, very short runs. A digital inkjet press may suit you better. Alliance's Techno web transport is the base of the JetSCI KolorSmart+ digital UV inkjet label press, which our partner Monotech JetSCI integrates and sells.
  • You only need to inspect and slit finished labels. The ACER inspection slitter rewinder does that offline at up to 300 m/min.
  • Wide-web flexible packaging above 670 mm. The Nova A8's widest web is 670 mm. For high-volume packaging on wider webs, a wide-web CI or gravure line is the usual choice; compare the economics with our flexo vs gravure calculator.
